Aveyron is the place to be to find the largest number of the “most beautiful villages in France”. There’s so much to see and do, from the medieval village of Castelnau-Pegayrols to the troglodyte village of Peyre through the wonders of Conques. To discover these 10 villages, you will need at least two days (3 preferably). For example, you can spend a day in the villages of southern Aveyron: the troglodyte city of Peyre (Comprégnac), La Couvertoirade with its fortified enclosure and watchtowers, Brousse-le-Château which has a superb castle, a Gothic bridge and several remarkable churches (Saint-Cirice, Saint-Jacques-le-Majeur).
The 7 other communes in Aveyron that belong to the "Plus Beaux Villages de France" network are located north of the campsite club Les Genêts. They are grouped around Rodez and Villefranche-de-Rouergue. Four are located to the east and north of the Ruthenian city: Sainte-Eulalie-d'Olt, Saint-Côme d'Olt and its fabulous medieval village, Estaing with its magnificent view of the castle and the Saint-Fleuret church from the stone bridge, and Conques. You can complete your art and history tour by visiting the 3 villages near Villefranche: Belcastel and the famous Lourdou Sauveterre-de-Rouergue and Najac with its fortress and other listed historical monuments.
