Listed as one of the “Most Beautiful Villages in France”, the town of Conques in the Midi-Pyrénées region of France boasts a wealth of architectural treasures. This medieval village is an important pilgrimage stop on the pilgrimage route to Santiago de Compostela, and is home to an extraordinary abbey, a preserved jewel of Romanesque art. Less than 80 km northwest of Les Genêts campsite, the village of Conques is well worth a visit. Its wonders can be reached in less than 1h20 by car, via Rodez.

Conques, the pearl of the Lot valley, is an ancient medieval villagethat has kept its half-timbered houses, cobbled streets, gates and part of its ramparts intact.

At the heart of this preserved heritage, theabbey church of Sainte-Foy is a masterpiece of Romanesque art. Today, the abbey church of Sainte-Foy is famous for a number of artistic and architectural treasures: its tympanum of the Last Judgment and its 124 finely sculpted figures, its 250 capitals, and its stained glass windows designed by contemporary artist Pierre Soulages.

Conques Abbey, with its famous pilgrims’ bridge, is a Unesco World Heritage site.

They are among the most beautiful historic monuments in the Aveyron department.

Mobile home holidays in Conques-en-Rouergue are possible because the village is relatively close to Les Genêts camping club as the crow flies (76 km), but the fact that it takes several secondary roads and passes through Rodez explains why it can take you 1? hours to get there.

From our campsite in Salles-Curan, head north on the D933. First you cross Canet-de-Salars. Take time to visit Saint-Pierre church, “the cathedral of Lévézou”, and admire the Lac de Pareloup on your left along the way. From Pont-de-Salars, take the D911 to Rodez. Notre-Dame cathedral, the episcopal palace and Sacré-Coeur church are the three must-see monuments in the city of Rodez. From Rodez, take the D840 to Valady. Turn right to reach Marcillac-Vallonet, then continue on the D901 to Conques.
