Castelnau-Pégayrols is a beautiful medieval village overlooking the Muse valley. The village is a treasure trove of architecture, including five listed buildings. The village is less than half an hour’s drive from Salles-Curan.

While the medieval village of Castelnau-Pégayrols is open to the public, guided tours are also available: they’re a great way to appreciate the historical value of certain listed buildings and sites. The village is home to an ancient hydraulic system dating back to the 12th century.

In addition to traditional guided tours, the village of Castelnau-Pégayrols offers themed tours and semi-nightly hikes.

Itinerary campsite Castelnau Pégayrols

The commune of Castelnau-Pégayrols lies 23 km south-east of Les Genêts towards Millau. It takes about half an hour to get there by car from our Aveyron campsite.

From the campsite, take the D577 to Salles-Curan, then the route de Montjaux (D993). Before you reach Montjaux, you’ll see a sign for Castelnau-Pégayrols on your left. You’ll be seduced by its castle, Saint-Michel priory, Notre-Dame church and medieval hydraulic system, all of which are listed historic monuments.

On your return, take the time to visit Montjaux, another magnificent Aveyron town of character, distinguished by its beautiful monuments and stone houses.
