Located just a little over 40 km north of Les Genêts campsite, Rodez is waiting to give you a busy day of discovery!
Don’t leave discovering the historical center off your visit program: there’s a suggested route to discover the town’s history. At the tourist office, you’ll find a plan guaranteed to ensure that you don’t miss any of the remarkable monuments of the old center. You can also decide to stroll at your own pace through the streets and alleys of the old town - you never know, you might come across some hidden treasures. At the top of the list of sites not to be missed in the historical center are the cathedral and the episcopal palace.
There are lots of museums in Rodez which might be of interest to you: the Denys-Puech museum dedicated to sculpture, the Fenaille museum and its collection of statue-menhirs or even the unmissable Soulages museum dedicated to averyonnaise artwork and contemporary art more generally.
The prefecture of Aveyron is located 40 km northwest of the campsite Les Genêts. It takes about 45 minutes by car to get to Rodez. From Salles-Curan, take the D993 towards Canet-de-Salars then Pont-de-Salars. Once on the D911, follow the direction of Rodez. Canet-de-Salars has a beautiful church (Saint-Pierre church) classified as a historical monument, nicknamed the "Cathedral of Lévézou". You will see Lake Pareloup from another angle and can take beautiful walks on the Caussanel side on the way to or from the lake.
